| Cell Line Description: | Human Mammary Epithelial Cells (HMEpC) are derived from normal adult mammary glands. They are cryopreserved at fifth passage. HMEpC can be cultured and propagated 16 population doublings. It was shown that normal HMEpC have a high amount of cyclin-dependent kinase 6 activity, which restrains HMEpC proliferation, and loss or down-regulation of cdk 6 may play a role in breast tumor development(1). Transforming HMEpC to immortality and malignancy was a useful model for studying early breast carcinogenesis(2). Autocrine colony-stimulating factor receptors may contribute to invasive progression in epithelial cancer was demonstrated in a 3-dimensional culture of HMEpC(3). References:1.Lucas, J.J. et al, Mol. While every effort is made to ensure details distributed by HPA Culture Collections are accurate, HPA Culture Collections cannot be held responsible for any inaccuracies in the data supplied. References where quoted are mainly attributed to the establishment of the cell culture and not for any specific property of the cell line, therefore further references should be obtained regarding cell culture characteristics.
Cultures supplied by HPA Culture Collections are for research purposes only. Enquiries regarding the commercial use of a culture are referred to the depositor. Some cultures have additional special release conditions such as the requirement for a material transfer agreement to be completed by the potential recipient prior to the supply of the cell line.
